MyBlogBlog widget

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Just a little note to make people aware. I noticed that my blog was taking an inordinately long period of time to load this morning so I started doing some troubleshooting. The culprit turned out to be the MyBlogBlog widget. I have moved it down to the footer to allow the rest of the page to load faster until I can figure out a better solution.

Trackbacks

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

I recently made a big misstep in my understanding around trackbacks and pingbacks. According to Wikipedia

A Trackback is one of three types of Linkbacks, methods for Web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking to, or referring to their articles. Some weblog software programs, such as Movable Type and Community Server, support automatic pingbacks where all the links in a published article can be pinged when the article is published. The term is used colloquially for any kind of Linkback.

Crystal clear, or at least I thought it was. Well anyway, I know that if I put a link in the body of my post then that site will get sent a trackback automatically when I publish the post. Whether or not their software accepts the trackback or how it handles it really isn’t something I concern myself with, I have a hard enough time getting my stuff straight to worry about what other people are doing.
